The International Adam Smith Society conference is an annual gathering of Smith scholars from around the world. The conference provides the opportunity to meet new and old friends, discuss ideas, and develop research for publication.

The 2024 conference will be held March 11-13, 2024 at Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan.

Japan holds a prominent place in Smithian scholarship. Part of Smith's library is now located at the University of Tokyo. On March 14, we have planned a visit to the Smith Library.

Registration

The $25 registration fee for the 2024 IASS Tokyo Conference can be used in 3 ways: 1) to pay your annual membership to the IASS, 2) to support the Tokyo conference, 3) to support the scholarship fund.

If you are not already a member, you can become one here.

Whichever option you choose, everyone is invited to register for the conference on the registration page by clicking here or below under Conference Information: "Registration".

Those choosing option 1 must first pay their membership to the IASS here (IASS members will receive an email with a fee code to be entered on the registration page).

Those choosing options 2 and 3 will pay the registration fee directly on the registration page.

Support

There should be some limited financial support for early career scholars and scholars in need.

In addition, the Young Scholars Initiative is sponsoring a pre-conference workshop on March 10th. The workshop offers early-career scholars working on Adam Smith a chance to discuss their work in detail with peers in a friendly and supportive context, and to get feedback from world-leading Smith scholars.
